Grading System

Grading System

Final semester grades are obtained from the assessment of learning outcomes each semester for each course. Final semester grades are the combined results of the Mid-Semester Exam, Final Semester Exam, and various other components that have been determined in the Semester Learning Plan (RPS). Final semester grades are stated with letter notation with certain points according to the provisions in Table 1.

Table 1: Equivalency Standards for Final Semester Grades in Letter, Point, and Numeric Grade

No. Letter Grade Point Grade Numeric Grade/Range Diploma & Bachelor’s Degree Postgraduate
1 A 4.00 80.00 ≤ n ≤ 100.00 Passed Passed
2 A- 3.75 77.00 ≤ n ≤ 79.99 Passed Passed
3 B+ 3.50 74.00 ≤ n ≤ 76.99 Passed Passed
4 B 3.00 68.00 ≤ n ≤ 73.99 Passed Passed
5 B- 2.75 65.00 ≤ n ≤ 67.99 Passed*) Not passed
6 C+ 2.50 62.00 ≤ n ≤ 64.99 Passed*) Not passed
7 C 2.00 56.00 ≤ n ≤ 61.99 Passed*) Not passed
8 D 1.00 45.00 ≤ n ≤ 55.99 Not passed Not passed
9 E 0.00 n < 45.00 Not passed Not passed

Note: Faculties are permitted to use higher standards.

*) Minimum passing grade for Religious Education, Pancasila, and Indonesian courses is a B.

Students who, for some reason, do not meet the requirements to be given the letter grades mentioned above will be given IN, MG, NR, FR grade status according to the provisions in Table 2.

Table 2: Grade Status

Grade Status Description Final Grade
Task Mid-Semester Exam Final Semester Exam
CO Complete Complete √ √ √ According to Table 1
IN Incomplete The task is not complete √ √ E grade with description
MG Missing Grade Did not attend the mid-term exam √ √
Did not attend the final exam √ √
NR No Record of Attendance Attendance is less than required
FR Fraud Committing fraud

The explanation of this assessment system is as follows:

  1. Letter grades are used for final grades.
  2. The 0—4 scale equivalency value is used to calculate Semester Grade Point Average (Indonesian: Indeks Prestasi Semester – IPS) and Cumulative Grade Point Average – CGPA (Indonesian: Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif – IPK);
  3. The 0—100 scale equivalency value is used to assess each activity.
  4. Grades D and E mean fail.
  5. For those who do not take the mid-semester exam, the component value is zero.
  6. An IN status can be corrected by completing the task no later than one (1) week after the grade is published. If this is not completed, the grade will be E.
  7. For those who meet the requirements for a make-up exam, MG status can be improved by taking a make-up exam to replace the Mid-Semester Exam and Final Semester Exam before the end of the relevant semester and following the schedule of each Study Program.
  8. IN, MG, NR, and FR statuses are equivalent to a point of 0, taken into account in the IPS; the student concerned is not permitted to take part in the remedial program for the course.
  9. Determination of components and point of course assessments is adjusted to the curriculum of each Study Program.

If there is an error in the grading by the lecturer, changes in the grade status of IN, MG, or other reasons, grade changes can be made through the grade remarking mechanism. The grade changes can only be made for the current semester and are only served up to 2 (two) weeks after the semester ends.

Learning is attempted using the Student Center Learning (SCL) approach, especially in Case-Based Learning (CBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), or other appropriate learning methods. CBL is a learning method by provides a case that describes the details of a complex real-world situation. PjBL is a learning method that uses projects/activities to solve real and complex problems. Learning assessment with the CBL and/or PjBL methods is expected to be at least 50% in order to contribute to the achievement of Indikator Kinerja Utama (IKU) 7, namely Collaborative and Participatory Classes. An example of an assessment with a CBL/PjBL component of at least 50% is shown in Table 3 below.

Table 3: Example of Determining SCL Assessment Points
